Our Sound Philosophy

Multicamera Sound and Video Packages
We offer the most comprehensive, reliable and highly developed sitcom and variety television equipment packages in the industry. In business since 1988, with over 100 years of combined experience, we pride ourselves on service and quality. Stage or location, in-town or across the country, we are here to help. Systems Approach
Rather than piecing together a recording package from mismatched components and random bits of cable, Sony Production Sound has chosen an integrated approach to sound system design. All of our systems come fully tested and pre-wired in ATA rated flight cases. Typically, a complete audio package consists of three cased modules and a console, which once in place in your audio booth, can be connected in a matter of minutes. Every component in the system is available on a custom patchbay, built right into the console. Not only is this a convenient feature for the sound mixer, but it is insurance against costly, show-stopping delays. In the unlikely event of equipment failure, a bad component can be quickly isolated and bypassed right through the patchbay. Compare that to the audio utility person fumbling in the dark through a maze of unmarked cables so typically found behind the console in our competitor's systems.

Innovation
Our predecessor company, Culver Sound, had always been at the forefront of production technology. We were the first to utilize multi-track digital recording (Mad About You, 1993), and 4 camera wireless, synchronized color video assist. At Sony, we seldom just buy an off the shelf piece of equipment for use on production. We carefully analyze the needs and application, and if a suitable piece of equipment does not exist, we will either modify or build from scratch to suit. In the very near future, we will be introducing the next generation of digital audio and video production systems, which will take the art of multicamera video production to a new level.

Testing 1, 2, 3
Sony Production Sound Department has made a substantial investment in the latest in computerized audio and video test equipment. Our Audio Precision Cascade analyzer is a laboratory grade instrument that is more often found in the R&D Departments of major audio manufacturing concerns than in an equipment rental facility. Our HP 8591E spectrum analyzer is a piece of equipment that would be at home in an FCC field office. Through the use of such instruments, we are not only assured of extracting the maximum quality available from a piece equipment, but we can guarantee that the end product will meet or exceed all broadcast network standards.

Convenience
As a part of Sony Pictures Entertainment, we are located at a major studio facility that offers many related services for television and film production. Although our normal hours are from 6:00am to 7:00pm, 24 hour delivery and pickup can be arranged. We have our own fleet of drivers and vehicles available to service your location anywhere in the Los Angeles area. We are licensed and insured and accept many forms of payment including all major credit cards. Credit is available to qualified companies and individuals, and in most cases an account can be set up within one business day.
